Merry Christmas (and Beyond!)

Writer's picture: Dr. HeatherDr. Heather

The holiday season is in full swing—cue the hot cocoa, eggnog, sugar cookies, and all the sweet treats that make this time of year so special. If you’re feeling a bit sluggish (hello, post-sugar slump), you’re not alone. Research shows that high sugar intake can inhibit your immune system for up to five hours—a real eye-opener. The good news is, you don’t have to stay stuck in “sugar shock.” I'll get to our White, Red, Blue, and Green therapies to offer a holistic way to recover, rejuvenate, and set yourself up for a healthier New Year. But first:

Questioning the “Cold and Flu Season”: Is It Sugar Overload?

Have you ever wondered why we call it “cold and flu season”—as if these viruses just happen to arrive with the first snowfall? A growing perspective, known as terrain theory, suggests that our internal environment (or “terrain”) plays a bigger role than outside invaders. In other words, if our body is well-nourished, well-rested, and balanced, microbes have a harder time taking hold.

Holiday Sweets: Fuel for Fermentation?

It’s no secret that the holiday season is often synonymous with sugar galore. High sugar intake can rapidly upset the delicate balance in your blood and tissues, potentially feeding unwanted microorganisms. This can lead to what I observe under Live Blood Analysis as “fermented” red blood cells RBCs, indicating an environment ripe for microbial party-crashing.

How Sugar Affects Immunity

  • Suppresses White Blood Cells: Research shows that sugar can inhibit immune cell activity for up to five hours.

  • Promotes Clumping: Too much sugar can alter the charge on red blood cells, making them stick together and potentially reduce efficient oxygen delivery.

  • Encourages Pathogenic Growth: A sugar-laden system can be a feast for bacteria and viruses, giving them the upper hand.

Instead of waiting for a virus to strike, we can be proactive about our terrain—keeping it clean, robust, and inhospitable to pathogens.

White: Immune Restoration Post-Sugar Overhaul

Calcium Lactate steps in as the “White Knight” of your wellness strategy. After the holiday indulgences, this specific form of calcium helps rebuild your defenses.

  • Why Calcium Lactate? It’s unique among calcium forms for its ability to potentiate immune cells.

  • How It Works: In Live Blood Analysis, you can observe macrophages (a type of white blood cell) actively moving and engulfing debris or pathogens. Calcium Lactate enhances their activity, helping them respond more effectively to immune challenges.

When your immune system is bogged down by sweet treats, giving it a strategic boost can help you bounce back to your optimal self.

Red & Blue: The Dynamic Duo for Blood Cleansing

Red (660 nm Light Therapy)

Think of red light as a gentle, warming sunrise for your cells. Using a 660 nm wavelength can:

  • Improve Circulation

  • Reduce Inflammation and Pain

  • Rev Up Cellular Repair

What’s especially exciting? Many people notice tangible improvements in just minutes—100% of the time in my practice. If you’re curious, you can explore getting your own red light device or visit a clinic that offers this therapy. It’s a fast, non-invasive way to support your body’s natural healing processes.

Blue (Methylene Blue)

Partnering with red light, Methylene Blue plays a key role in blood cleansing—one of the foundational principles of naturopathic care. It supports the body’s natural ability to restore health by helping cleanse the bloodstream of unwanted pathogens or toxins. Together, Red + Blue shine a bright light on your body’s capacity for vitality and rejuvenation.

Green: PEMF for Rest & Recovery

Finally, we have the soothing “Green” of PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) Therapy. Picture this therapy as a gentle energy hug for your cells, helping to:

  • Reset Your Sleep Cycle: Perfect after those late holiday nights or travel disruptions.

  • Speed Up Muscle Recovery: Great if you’ve been lugging around shopping bags or shoveling snow.

  • Calm the Holiday Hustle: Imagine gazing up at a peaceful forest canopy—except you’re lying comfortably on a PEMF mat in an office (or your own home).

This calming green glow can work wonders on both mind and body, especially when you need to step away from the holiday frenzy.
